Some hints and tips for optimised searches

Searching the website
Use the box above to input the term you wish to search for. Clicking the Search button activates a examination for that term of both the website and the news archive. The results are output in a table, left hand side giving the results for the website, right hand side the news archive results.

Improving your search results
Although there is only one search box, two quite different processes occur on clicking Search, eventually producing results on one page. Thus to improve search results it is necessary to consider which part of the website you wish to search:

Searching the site: The left hand side results are the product of searches of every document of the website except the news archive. Results are ranked in the number of occurances in the document of that word. If too many results are displayed try using additional search terms - e.g. if 'abortion' produces too many results, then search for 'teenage abortion'. This will display every document that mentions teenage or abortion but, of course, those documents that mention both will be placed higher in the ranking. Searching the News Archive: The right hand side of the results page searches the News Archive only - this is a totally different type of search. Here results are listed chronologically, with the most recent first. Multiple search terms don't produce results for this search, but you can search for components of words (something that doesn't work for the site search), i.e. You can input a search for 'clon' and this will produce all documents with the letters clon in them, e.g. cloning, clone, cloned, etc.
